12 noon Sept 20th: Parade & Festival for the United Nations International Day of Peace
Honokaa, Hawaii hosts the most significant Peace Day event in the state of Hawaii, and the only event of its kind nationwide, a parade and festival demonstrating unity in support of peace, compassion and awareness of interdependence. At 12 noon on Sunday, September 20, 2009, more than hundreds of participants from over 30 groups will perform or exhibit in a unique parade, described as a “moving stage.” The festival which follows will include entertainment and over 40 vendors and exhibitors. Peace Day 24 Hour Global Broadcast
The Culture of Peace Initiative will be one of many sites hosting the first ever 24 Hour Global Broadcast on Peace Day! It will highlight the vitally important work of the United Nations and its humanitarian agencies, as well as organizations and individuals around the world dedicated to creating a more peaceful, just and sustainable world. The broadcast will feature Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon's message for the International Day of Peace; as well as interviews with present and former high level UN officials and other world leaders. The broadcast will also include videos of the "UN in Action" and various Peace Day events around the planet.

On Sunday and Monday, September 20-21, 2009, the Island of Hawaii will join global Peace Day celebrations in London, Amsterdam, Jerusalem, South Africa, Brazil, California, Canada and elsewhere, via technological wizardry and the efforts of international organizations such as Peace in Our Lifetime.
Two Big Island separate events will be broadcast via streaming video on the worldwide web in joint Peace Day music cooperative concerts happening around the world. The "Global United Party for Peace" will also appear within a virtual reality world, Second Life, where 3D user-generated characters called Residents, move, work, socialize, go to school, play and do business. Potential audience for the internet streaming broadcast is an estimated 1.5 million viewers.
