According to Council Chair J Yoshimoto, it is a couple of freshman council members who are staging the coup to oust Hoffmann, Ford, and Yagong from Vice Chair and Committee Chairperson positions. If you think Yoshimoto is not wielding the power here (along with certain persons who are not on the Council), you are naïve. Does anyone recall J Yoshimoto’s speech at the mayoral inauguration? Yoahimoto’s theme was “pono”. The Hawaiian concept “pono” is worth aspiring to and making it a part of your way of life. If unfamiliar to you, this Hawaiian linguistic gem is well worth studying. “Pono” incorporates a sense of doing what is “right”, achieving a balance that is fair to all affected. Yet there is no “pono” in Yoshimoto’s current agenda to silence those on the Council who do not kowtow to him and his surrogates.
